In addition to breaking the NWSL attendance record in their first home match, the Orlando Pride and star Alex Morgan set another milestone last weekend when her Facebook page quietly became the first page to stream an entire professional sports event.
We’re talking some seriously impressive numbers here as “it reached an audience of 273,249 unique viewers in the first half, according to Facebook. A separate live video of the game’s second half reached 348,944 unique viewers, also according to Facebook. The game reached an estimated 554,000 unique viewers in all.” For reference, the official YouTube live stream of the match reached around 76,000 total people.
With Facebook pushing live stream video at every opportunity it gets, this is undoubtedly the tip of the iceberg for future content.
