Degree and NYCFC brought soccer to the NYC Streets

For the soccer hungry fans in America, the game is always on one’s mind. From seeing goal-like objects on the street during their walk to work or kicking a small stone, which they, in their daydream, equate to scoring a goal in the MLS Cup Final. Well this past weekend, NYCFC partnered with Degree to help these soccer hungry fans realize their daydreams all across the borough of Manhattan.

NYCFC and Degree took it to the streets and created, or rather spray-painted, six pop-up goals all across Manhattan for the fans who refuse to stop daydreaming. Their goal? To show that the sport of soccer is not confined to any one specific definition of where or how it is meant to be played.

All of this culminated with a 3v3 tournament outside of Yankee Stadium ahead of NYCFC’s final match of the season vs. Philadelphia Union on Oct. 28th. The winning team was gifted five Legends tickets with one winner getting the opportunity to participate in the Shirt Off Our Backs ceremony that followed the match on the same day.

At the end of the day, this partnership showed there’s no defined traditional expectation of what a partnership between a brand and club can be. It can be as simple as creating goals from scratch all across the city. New York City FC and Degree saw this value in giving soccer fans the space to play whenever and wherever they please.
