…and just like that, the 2018 World Cup came and went! To no surprise, all 14 of the World Cup games in July were the most-watched games of the month. From the most-watched game (Final – 16.6M) to the least-watched (Sweden vs. Switzerland R16 game – 3.0M), total World Cup viewership between Fox and Telemundo in July was over 105M. That’s a lot of eyeballs.
While Liga MX returned later in the month and the viewership numbers prove it, perhaps the most surprising thing in July is that the only other two games to draw an audience over 1M were MLS games – certainly aided by World Cup lead-ins.
Special shout out to Ecuadorian league and El Nacional for being the most-featured team of the month thanks to several appearances on GolTV.
ICYMI: earlier this week ESPN won the Serie A rights and will be broadcasting/streaming more than 340 matches this season on the ESPN family of networks, including ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN Deportes, and ESPN+. You can read more about this exciting development here HERE.
