Thanksgiving. A day celebrated in America by giving thanks and expressing gratitude… with a side of gravy and a turkey feast. Oh, and pie – you can’t celebrate Thanksgiving without pie!
To show their thanks to American fans leading up to Thanksgiving, the Premier League, along with broadcast partner NBC, surprised 1,000 fans with packages on their doorsteps. What was in each box? You guessed it – plenty of pie to enjoy on Thanksgiving day and carry them through the weekend’s matches!
The week kicked off with the Premier League’s American social accounts (@PLinUSA on Twitter and Instagram) teasing the surprise and giving fans the opportunity to win one of these coveted packages – before even knowing what was inside. As fans started receiving them on Tuesday and Wednesday of the holiday week, details were slowly being revealed.

By Thursday, fans were sharing what they’d received: a traditional American pumpkin pie to enjoy with their Thanksgiving feast, two savory English meat pies to enjoy while taking in the weekend’s matches, a PL-branded pie server, and a heartfelt note expressing gratitude to all the American fans who wake up early week in and week out to support their clubs from across the pond.
They even sent the pies to NBC’s Premier League studio crew of Rebecca Lowe, Robbie Earle, and Tim Howard, who discussed the merits of each kind of pie. Rebecca had her first taste of pumpkin pie, and… we’ll just let you see her reaction for yourself:
"I'm just surprised this is even a debate. You're wrong." – @TimHowardGK

Fans of all 20 clubs were overjoyed to be included in the holiday celebration and acknowledged that, given how hard of a year 2020 has been for many, this was a highlight they wouldn’t soon forget (even if the pie trays would eventually be empty).
