MLS Attendance Numbers Consistent with League’s Growth

Week #3 of MLS is around the corner. While the feeling of winter withdrawal has finally started to diminish, attendance numbers have grown (consistent with the growth of the league).

Business of Soccer has been keeping track of these attendance numbers for the first couple of games; generally speaking, stadiums are filling up in the same way they were at the outset of last season. League wide, attendance was at 102.1% (of capacity) in week #2, and now sits at 105.7% (of capacity) for the season.

Four stadiums were completely jammed: Citrus Bowl, which sold out for the second week straight, Children’s Mercy Park (Sporting Kansas City), Yankee Stadium (NYCFC) and Avaya Stadium (SJ Earthquakes).

2016 is just starting but is already beating 2015’s numbers by almost 11%, and we hope this is just a small sign of great things to come as the season – and teams – warm up.
