Columbus Crew SC released their new home and away jersey ahead of the 2017 season and both are visually stunning. Aesthetics aside, the biggest update to their look is a new primary sponsor, in luxury car manufacturer Acura. They replace shaving cream brand Barbasol, who has had their logo on the front of the jersey since 2012.
The new partnership marks the largest annual deal in club history. Beyond the national exposure of the automotive brand on the front of the jersey, there’s a local tie-in for Acura, which has two manufacturing plants in Ohio. The second plant opened in 2014 less than an hour northwest of Columbus.
2017 marks the third year of the “Columbus Crew SC” branding and new logo which debuted prior to the start of the 2015 season. Incorporating the checkerboard pattern from the new badge on both the yellow and black jersey is smart and it also ties back to Acura with a racing checkered flag.
We’ll have much more on MLS ahead of the season kicking off the first weekend in March.
