Soccer On U.S. TV – August 2018

Can you believe we’re already more than halfway through September? Looking out our office window I can see the leaves starting to change as Fall tightens its grip – the dog days [of summer] are over, as Florence and her Machine sang! Looking back on August and the month of soccer that was, we saw the European leagues and Liga MX kickstart their long journey – and it showed in the stats.

The Premier League had three of the five most-watched matches of the month, including Chelsea vs. Arsenal who garnered nearly 1.2M viewers on NBC & NBC Universo. In a game that seems like forever ago, the pre-Ronaldo-debut Juventus squad took on the MLS All-Stars in front of over 72,000 people in Atlanta. The match was the third-most watched match of the month.

Thanks to Champions League, International Champions Cup, Copa MX, and the return of league play a whopping seven teams were most-featured on TV this month: Benfica, Lyon, Monterrey, Necaxa, Puebla, and Queretaro.

We’ll be back again in October with more soccer on TV recapping after we’ve woken up when September ends.
