Every week Nielsen releases a Social Content Ratings Weekly Top Ten where series/specials and sporting events are ranked based on the total number of social TV interactions across Facebook and Twitter. Soccer games tend to make the weekly top ten, but rarely do they top either list for a paticular week. And then Barcelona’s miraculous comeback happened.
In both unique and total interactions for the week of March 6-12, the Barcelona – PSG Champions League match blew away every other series, special, or sporting event on TV. The match had over 1.5M unique accounts that authored original content and over 3.5M total interactions on Facebook and Twitter.
For perspective, the Barcelona – PSG match had more unique interactions than the following shows… COMBINED.
- The Walking Dead
- The Bachelor
- The Voice
- Nickelodeon’s 30th Annual Kids’ Choice Awards
To further illustrate the dominance, the match also had more total interactions than the next five most-talked about sporting events of last week COMBINED, including:
- Duke vs. North Carolina – ACC Tournament
- NASCAR Kobalt 400
- Arkansas vs. Kentucky – SEC Tournament
- Duke vs. Louisville – ACC Tournament
- Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Houston Rockets
