El Clasico Delivers On Both Social and TV

There’s no disputing the power and the appeal of El Clásico. The latest showdown of the Spanish giants Real Madrid and FC Barcelona generated record TV ratings for beIN SPORTS, as well as record social engagement on Twitter.

Almost 2 million people (1.915M) tuned in to watch the game: 64% watching on beIN en Español and 36% watching on beIN Sport. It was not only the highest rated telecast of the year for beIN, but also the #1 soccer telecast of the year across all cable networks regardless of language.

The power of soccer and El Clásico in particular was also shown in the social media world. According to Nielsen’s Twitter TV Ratings the game was the most social sporting event of the day and 2nd highest for the week generating 404,000 tweets in the United States. Quite impressive for a week that also included high profile NCAA March Madness action as well as the NBA.

Long live El Clásico!
