Coming in at number two on our updated list of soccer market rankings is Houston – a city with a large Hispanic presence, the Dynamo of MLS, the Dash in NWSL, and a great soccer infrastructure to boot. NRG Stadium, home of the Houston Texans of the NFL, has often played host to soccer, including stops by the Mexican National Team and Copa America in 2016. There’s a reason why Houston is a strong contender to host several games during the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
Let’s get into the nitty gritty – Houston has a high rate of soccer participation and ranks fourth in this category. Houston is also top ten in the categories of soccer attendance, social conversing, and TV viewing.
The Hispanic makeup of the Houston soccer community is evident in the searches for terms “soccer” and “futbol.” Houston’s searches for the term “futbol” were sixth overall, while “soccer” was considerably lower in the rankings. Among the most talked about leagues and teams on social media, Houston fans talked about MLS the fifth most and the Mexican National Team fourth most.
