The global TV rights for the English Premier League are set to exceed £1 billion in 2016. A staggering number that clearly establishes the Premier League as the most popular global sports league. Leading the way in terms of TV rights paid is the U.S. market thanks to the bumper six-year deal with NBC that nets the Premier League a cool £109.6m a year.
The Mail on Sunday article also highlights a hat trick of interesting facts about U.S. viewership.
- 28.6M Americans (almost 1 in 11) watched at least part of one Premier League match last season
- Almost a third (27%) watch matches outside their home
- More than half (53%) watched via either a computer, laptop, tablet or mobile phone
