Sony & FC Barcelona: Let’s Rock

In an effort to improve the fan experience, Sony and FC Barcelona have signed a two-year deal bringing together some of the biggest names in music and soccer. The joint venture was kicked off by its first collaboration in Miami earlier this month. This reception held to celebrate the agreement boasted a star-studded guest list, including artists Becky G, Carlos Vives, ChocQuibTown and Pedro Capó. FCB players Sergio Busquets, Ivan Rakitic and Ousmane Dembélé also attended. Additional projects featuring Sony artists will be announced in the coming months.

The club also posted a video to their Twitter account announcing the partnership, giving us a taste of the new sound their promotional content will feature. The video emphasizes the connection between music and soccer by featuring FCB star players such as Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez and Gerard Piqué. From the Sony side, international artists Nicky Jam, CNCO and Enrique Iglesias are featured.

This alliance brings together two worlds – music and sport – both with passionate fans. For musicians and FCB players alike, future collaborations allow for an expansion of their audience. For FCB, this represents an opportunity to take their already global brand and make it… even more global. From concerts to branded content, this is seemingly a smart business decision by FCB as they increase the number of eyeballs – and ears – that experience their brand. For Sony, they are instantly plugging their brand into one of, if not the largest, global sporting brands. If this partnership is the next evolution of clubs like Roma curating music playlists on Spotify, we’re excited for what comes next.

The only question now is when will Sony artist Shakira and her husband Piqué release their first piece of content together…
