Every week, Front Office Sports and Conviva are highlighting the top 20 sports teams, leagues, and events based on social media engagement. During the week of August 30 to September 5, 16 of the top 20 teams with highest social engagement were soccer teams.
Why? News of player transfers makes for engaging social content and with several big-name players making moves, team social accounts like Manchester United’s and Atletico Madrid’s benefited. Interspersed among world-renowned clubs were plenty of lesser-known clubs like Mallorca and Strasbourg.
At the top, NWSL teams had three of the five highest-engagements last week with Angel City’s content having the highest engagement rate of all 334 teams measured thanks to the signing of hometown player and U.S. Women’s National Team star, Christen Press.
