According to Conviva’s Q4 2020 Streaming Report, streaming via Smart TVs is up 157 percent year-over-year. Why is that important? Consider the trend of broadcast rights moving to streaming platforms. ESPN+ has become a must-have for soccer fans. Paramount+ is the home for UEFA Champion League and the NWSL and will soon be the home of Serie A and the top Argentine and Brazilian leagues. Peacock is home to the Premier League (in addition to linear TV). The list goes on. Smart TVs serve as an aggregator for all these soccer streaming apps.
As you think about where soccer broadcasting is headed and how many homes now have Smart TVs, it’s reasonable to expect this trend to continue.
