For decades, sports betting has been a major area of focus for fans. Thanks to help from the U.S. Supreme Court, more and more states and their respective voters are choosing to adopt legal sports betting.
As a result, 21 states currently authorize online or in-person betting, while another five will soon accept legal wagers. In addition to these 26 states, Washington, D.C. has also legalized sports betting.
Why is this important? Sports betting (legal or illegal…) is a way to engage new fans looking to make a buck and turn them into long-term fans. More attention equals a more informed public and soccer competitions stand to benefit. It also opens up another sponsorship category for leagues like MLS, who have already added BetMGM as a partner.
