In the past 2-3 years the sports gambling world has been transformed. Why? It’s now legal in a lot of states with more surely to follow. MGM signed a sponsorship deal with MLS likely, in part, because soccer fans gamble. Betting on soccer is a big part of the European soccer experience, so it’s no surprise to see it start making inroads in the U.S.
42 percent of American soccer fans have previously bet on soccer. If you’re looking for a sign of growth potential, 31 percent of fans who have not yet bet on soccer indicated they are likely to do so when gambling is legal in their state. As states enact their own legislation, it will be interesting to follow the marketing arm of entertainment companies who, as of now, can only advertise in certain states.
