The complete 2016 MLS schedule was released yesterday, sending fans into a frenzy of analysis and prognostication.
Shortly thereafter, two key broadcast partners announced plans to expand and enhance their on-air coverage. A couple exciting points stood out, proving the networks’ continued commitment to our domestic league:
1) FOX Sports debuted its 2016 Major League Soccer regular season slate of games and will shift four MLS matches off cable to the its broadcast network this season:
- May 21: NYCFC v. RBNY
- July 17: Portland Timbers v. Seattle Sounders
- July 24: RBNY v. NYCFC
- July 31: Sporting KC v. Portland Timbers
2) ESPN will become the primary home of MLS, with 85% of match broadcasts in 2016 airing on their parent channel:
