We recently caught up with Greg Lalas of the Kicking + Screening Soccer Film Festival to chat new developments and future plans for the showcase of soccer films.
Founded in 2009, K+S is an annual series of soccer cultural events that bring together soccer and film enthusiasts to celebrate the beautiful game. The festival provides a forum for filmmakers, artists, and writers to showcase their work. Festivals have been held in New York, D.C., London, Amsterdam, Rio de Janeiro, and beyond.
What’s Ahead for Kicking + Screening?
In the interview, Lalas discusses, among other things, what’s on the horizon for K+S, including:
- June 28 – The Holy Game virtual screening (trailer)
- July – Playing for Peace virtual screening (trailer)
- August – Casuals virtual screening (trailer)
- September 14-17 – Kicking + Screening Soccer Film Festival in New York City (details)
In addition to the upcoming screenings and festival, K+S recently introduced Screening Room, a curated library of soccer films available for streaming (free or rent). The long-term vision for K+S? Creating a video on-demand service showcasing soccer films from amateur and professional filmmakers who may otherwise not be featured on Netflix, Amazon Prime, and other larger-scaled streaming platforms.
