UEFA LAUNCHES YOUTUBE CHANNEL FOR WOMEN’S SOCCER

Europe’s governing soccer body, UEFA, recently launched a new YouTube channel to house its Together #WePlayStrong initiative, which aims to grow girl’s and women’s soccer across its member organization through a variety of original digital content.

UEFA has partnered with elite women’s soccer players to act as content creators and curators for this new channel. Shanice Van de Sanden of Olympique Lyonnais, Juventus player Petronella Ekroth, Arsenal player Lisa Evans, Real Madrid player Eunice Beckmann, FFC Frankfurt player Laura Feiersinger, and Sarah Zadrazil of Turbine Potsdam have all signed on to create original content for the channel. World champion freestyle soccer player Liv Cooke will also be tapped to create videos for the new channel.

Planned content on the channel will focus on player routines and daily insights, fun challenges, style content and tips, health and fitness advice, and more. Players will share their experiences in soccer to encourage young women to participate in the sport.

UEFA launched #WePlayStrong in 2017 and saw their social media engagement double as a result. This YouTube channel is the logical next step to continue digitally cultivating and growing this demographic of young girls interested in soccer, especially with increased eyes on the women’s game ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in France this summer. The YouTube channel was also launched one month after Visa signed a seven-year deal to sponsor UEFA women’s soccer. As more attention is given to the women’s game in Europe both on the field, in the stands, and through digital mediums, expect more brands like Visa to get involved.
