Orlando City Score Huge Attendance Win on Opening Weekend

Orlando City’s Citrus Bowl Stadium shook with relief as the lions avoided a 2-0 loss with two goals in the last few seconds of stoppage time.

The rollercoaster of emotions on this season opener included four golazos, many incredible saves and two red cards, but the most impressive thing of all, in my opinion, was that it was witnessed by 60,147 fans that filled the Citrus Bowl on Sunday. Following last year’s call to action to #FillTheBowl for the home opener, this year fans rallied to #FillTheBowlAgain

The Orlando City SC crowd was the fifth largest in the world to have attended a game this weekend overshadowing attendance numbers from teams like Manchester City (Eng), Tigres (Mex) and Newcastle (Eng) while nearly catching up with the Argentinian Súper Clásico between Boca Juniors and River Plate.

OCSC Attendance ranking

MLS on the other hand placed sixth in the world surpassing the French Ligue 1 and Italy’s Serie A.

With MLS’ steady growth, I anticipate that soon enough crowds this large will be routine for the league and blog posts like these will not be so shocking anymore!
